A Tale of Two Dorothys - The Mulukuku CD Project
February 14, 2002 Santa Cruz
Dorothy Granada; director of the Maria Luisa Ortiz Women's Medical Clinic, and I walked arm in arm to a small Greek restaurant and toasted the sweethearts sitting all around us with our carafe of Chianti. We walked home in the dark, Dorothy holding tight as we crossed the streets. At home we watched Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon in our pajamas.
(Can you picture the Tiger and the Dragon wearing our pjs? Meow.)
During my 2 day stay at Dorothy’s friends, I noticed that many people tried to get an appointment with her and were refused because of time limitations. She said she invited me because I had never been an activist before – and here I wrote a song and produced a CD for the Clinic.
Dorothy tells the story of how we met.
“One night when Dorothy went out to do her laundry,” she begins.
Of course it is true. I was out to do a load of laundry but it was a full house. I ended up visiting my friend Alex instead – he lived in the apartment above the laundry mat. During the visit, he got a call from Lisa reminding him that they were going to see a lecture about a medical clinic in Nicaragua….
Thank you for the gift of your attention and caring for the citizens of Mulukukú, Nicaragua.
